IMPACT NARRATIVE

IMG_1315.JPG

Health matters to everyone, everywhere.

Since our founding in 2019, Autrui has been driven by a shared vision: creating a sustainable future with better health for everyone, everywhere. Autrui, which means 'others' represents who we are and what we do as a team.

WE HAVE SERVED MORE THAN

INDIVIDUALS FROM
UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

Based on findings from UNHCR Malaysia (2017)...

50%

OF REFUGEES ARE STILL UNABLE TO AFFORD HEALTHCARE SERVICES.

17%

OF REFUGEES STRUGGLED ACCESSING HEALTHCARE DUE TO TRANSPORTATION.

33%

OF REFUGEES WERE TURNED AWAY FROM HEALTH FACILITIES DUE TO PAYMENT ISSUES.

Although there are multiple factors which contribute to health inequalities for asylum seekers and refugees, financial constraint remains the key barrier for accessibility to healthcare.

What is the solution: Our focus is to close the healthcare gap for underserved communities through a sustainable and inclusive approach through primary healthcare.

OUR YEAR OF IMPACT

THE FIRST 1,000 DAYS PROJECT

A good start in life is as important to plants as it is to children: they must develop strong roots in a congenial soil, otherwise they will never make the growth that will serve them richly according to their needs in their adult life.

- Vita Sackville-West

The first 1,000 days of life is a period of development which begins from the time of conception until a child reaches 2 years of age. This period provides a crucial window of opportunity for promotion of optimal health, growth and neurodevelopment. Thus, adequate healthcare, good nutrition, early learning and stimulation, quality childcare practices and a clean safe environment play an important role for the future of a child. These formative years establish a strong foundation for a child’s physical, mental and social health, giving them an opportunity to thrive and develop to their full potential.

We  are committed to support underserved pregnant mothers and their babies from low-income households through our First Thousand Days Project.

STORY HIGHLIGHT: THAWRY

After a seven year break, Thawry became pregnant with her second child at 34 years old. She visited Autrui clinic during her pregnancy and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Despite her adherence to the dietary advice given, her sugar levels remained uncontrolled.

Thawry had to be admitted to hospital for further management. Once her treatment was optimised, Thawry continued her follow up at our clinic. With the support of our team, Thawry eventually gave birth to a full-term healthy baby boy.

Today, both mother and child remain in good health!

Nutrition education centred around mothers as an additional component for antenatal care to improve infant health outcomes and reduce the risk of stunting.

AUTRUI 365

Primary healthcare is the first-line of healthcare that anyone would receive. It looks at the overall well-being of society and when done well, will improve the general health of communities, reduce medical cost, and improve health outcomes.

As our goal is to enable a fair distribution of healthcare, Autrui 365 is a fund that subsidises primary healthcare for underserved communities. With this fund, we are able to offer quality treatment at an affordable price.

'365' stands for all-year-round because health matters every day of our lives. Autrui 365 plays a crucial role because access to better healthcare can potentially empower individuals to create a better future for themselves and for generations to come.

PARTNERING TOGETHER

25.png

Poor health existing in certain pockets of society can have a negative impact on society overall. Furthermore, it can also limit the social and economic participation of affected individuals. These existing inequities are likely to contribute to intergenerational transmission of poverty as well as intergenerational consequences of poor health. Autrui is committed to putting an end to this vicious cycle.
