Impact Narrative 2024

Autrui Global began with a vision:
to create a future with better health for everyone, everywhere.

Today, that vision remains unchanged.

Research shows that a healthy start in life lays the foundation for a brighter future. When mothers receive quality care during pregnancy and after birth, their children have a better chance to thrive.

Unfortunately, many vulnerable mothers in Malaysia struggle to access this essential care, putting both their health and their baby’s well-being at risk.

For first-time mothers, the challenges can feel even more overwhelming. Navigating motherhood without proper healthcare and support can lead to anxiety and missed opportunities for crucial early care.

At Autrui Global, we bridge this gap through The First 1,000 Days Project, providing essential pre- and postnatal care for underserved mothers from low-income households without Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

But our support doesn’t stop there. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we continue supporting newborns with routine immunisations and growth and development monitoring—ensuring they grow up strong and healthy.

Baby Mary is living proof of this impact. Today, she is a happy, healthy toddler as a result of the high quality care her mother, Wint, received during pregnancy at our clinic. Now, Wint continues to bring Mary for regular checkups and vaccinations, ensuring she has the care she needs to reach her full potential.

As more mothers enter The First 1000 Days Project, success stories like Wint and Mary’s are becoming the new normal. This solidifies the power of early intervention in building a strong foundation for a child's physical, mental, and social well-being.

OUR PROGRESS

Our journey has been one of continuous growth, learning, and adapting to the needs of the community:

Year 4

Introduced perinatal mental health services and promoted responsive caregiving and early learning for children through Theraplay. We also expanded our breastfeeding support to include lactation therapy.

OUR TRACK RECORD

As pioneers of The First 1,000 Days Project for underserved communities in the Klang Valley, we rely on data to guide and strengthen our work. By tracking key health indicators, we’ve seen firsthand how early intervention and quality care can transform lives.

OUR DATA SHOWS THAT...

While most mothers only come for their first antenatal visit in the second trimester, we have observed a positive shift—more mothers are now coming in before 20 weeks of pregnancy.

As early care allows us to provide timely interventions and prevent potential complications, this positive shift reflects both improved health-seeking behavior and greater health literacy within the communities we serve.

To date, fewer than 5% of the babies in our project were born prematurely, with most cases linked to maternal health complications.

Additionally, 90% of newborns have a healthy birthweight, highlighting the impact of proper maternal care.

Through our education efforts, over 60% of mothers have exclusively breastfed their babies for at least six months.

Overall, 58% of the babies were fully breastfed throughout the first two years of life.

With comprehensive support throughout their first 1,000 days, 99% of the children in our program are growing and developing well.

The demand for accessible healthcare among underserved communities in Malaysia continues to grow.

Through Autrui 365, our team has worked tirelessly to close the healthcare gap for vulnerable families in Klang Valley. By adopting a sustainable and inclusive approach to primary healthcare, we ensure that no one is left behind.

When Maung discovered he had Type 2 diabetes three years ago, it turned his life upside down.

“When I worked, I felt dizzy and couldn’t concentrate,” he shared. The symptoms eventually forced him to stop working for five months, a difficult time for his young family of five.

Hope came when Maung’s sister visited Autrui Clinic for antenatal care. “I followed her to the clinic,” he explained. Since then, he has been under our care for the past two years.

At our clinic, Maung found understanding and effective treatment. “The doctor is very nice and friendly,” he said. “The medication helped me get back to work and my daily life.” Now employed part-time at a restaurant, Maung is grateful for the clinic’s support.
